What five works of literature have had the biggest effect on you?
The
works of literature that inspire me are not your normal books about love
and mystery, but they might just explain how my demented wacky brain
works and how deeply I obsess over love the written word.
1.
The Odyssey/The Iliad by
Homer: the definition of genius. Once you finally
figure out how to read his prose, the story itself is amazing.
2. Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein: the first collection of poetry I ever owned. Being so young, I loved the stories but more
than that I loved how he arranged and chose his words; presenting a flow that
was both lyrical and whimsical. The
ability to create so much with so few words is rare.
3. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks: CLASSIC
love story. It had a profound effect on
my life at the time I read it. It made
me realize how I wanted my own love story to play out; and the changes I needed
to make in order for that to happen.
4. Ariel by Sylvia Plath: This may sound
odd, but I feel a strong connection to Sylvia.
Mainly because her insane ramblings make perfect sense to me. She wrote about the dark sides of herself she
couldn’t explain in any other way. If
you want a peek into me, read her poem Tulips
(hint: how something as beautiful as tulips can become taunting and torturous
when you feel anything but).

The Neverending Story by
Michael Ende: I can’t pinpoint what it is/was about
this book and the subsequent movie that captured my heart, but it’s a world I
wanted to live in! I can only hope to
make my readers experience the same fascination and love of the world I’ve
created in my books as The Neverending Story gave me.

Kristen Day is a southern
belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every
opportunity. She loves all things
nostalgic, rustic, and quirky. She’s
been told she sees the world through rose-colored glasses, but she prefers to
think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into
something she can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were

DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA trilogy, which includes FORSAKEN, AWAKEN (Oct 2012), and
CHOSEN (Winter 2012). She loves all
books, but really enjoys writing young adult, paranormal romances. She’s loved to write for as long as she can
remember. Her first published work was
her poem RED in second grade (you guessed it - it was a poem about the color
red - life altering, right?) that won her 5 gold stars and a spot in her
elementary school's poetry book. That's when her addiction to the written word
officially began. She was the only kid
in fifth grade that actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Go ahead and laugh
- its okay.
When she’s not writing
she’s making jewelry, painting, feeding her addiction to sweet tea, watching
the Discovery Channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North
Carolina with her amazing husband. She was born in Boone, NC and graduated from
Appalachian State University with a degree in Marketing in 2001.
